FAQ

What is a Legal Nurse Consultant?

A Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) is a registered nurse who evaluates the medical aspects and issues related to medical litigation. A Legal Nurse Consultant can review, organize and analyze medical records, screen for merit, conduct literature searches, locate medical experts, assist in trial preparation and collaborate with attorneys on case strategy.

Why use a Legal Nurse Consultant versus a Paralegal?

Nurses are the inner workings and have an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system. We understand the terminology and medical conditions pertinent to the case, educating the attorney and his staff on the critical components, preventing wasted time on irrelevant documents or issues. This allows the paralegal to focus on the legal aspects of the case.  It is critical for LNCs and paralegals to work side-by-side throughout the entire lifetime of the case to ensure there is total cohesiveness and understanding of the significant issues surrounding the case.

How much does it cost?

During the free case consultation, the required services are determined and budget established according to the client’s needs. All services are authorized before executing and updates are provided on an ongoing basis. This ensures the services are within the budget framework and there are no surprises upon case completion.

How can I justify your cost?

The more relevant question would be  “How can you justify not using our services”. We are paid only for the requested services and provided work product.  There are no associated overhead costs, such as computer technology, office supplies, liability insurance, technical support or employee benefit outlay and we don’t get paid for sick leave, vacation time or holidays.  We offer a 100% guarantee.  If for any reason you are not satisfied with our work product, notify us within five business days within receipt of our work.  We will make the requested revisions in order to meet your request or will waive the fee for services.

How do you locate experts?

After a Free case consultation and determination of what type of expert needed, i.e. experience, credentials, geographic location, timeframe, etc. Hester Legal Nurse Consulting searches for the qualified expert.   Hester Legal Nurse Consulting works to obtain at least two to three potential candidates who are qualified to testify and whose opinion would be agreeable.  Due diligence includes a personal interview with each candidate and attorney references.  Once that process is completed, the client is provided the candidate credentials, a candidate summary and reference results. We charge a flat fee for Expert locating services, and if the initial candidates do not meet your criteria, we will continue to search until an expert is located who meets your needs.
